Fashions fade, style is eternal

Very interesting read. For all the Rapha bashing I hear & read, it is refreshing to see a ‘brand’ not hiding..

Case in point, all those “Made in Italy”  or “Made in Japan” luxury brands have more than 50% of the production “Made in China”, yet they do not mention or pass on the benefits.

A while back Monocle interviewed E. Zegna - look for it in the archives - interestingly it was reenforced that the buyer should only know that it is made by E. Zegna, regardless of where it was made as the E. Zegna label should be good enough.

Senore Zegna is completely right. But what people continue to overlook is that many factories and mills in Italy are now owned by the Chinese and staffed with low wage Chinese labor. Meaning that a factory in China owned by or producing for a top brand is most likely turning out better quality products than those of one from Italy. Don’t be so nieave to think that everything made in Italy is done so by a third generation tailor.

Trust the brand not the made in tag.
